Rules

The Pierre David-Weill Drawing Prize - Académie des beaux-arts was created in 1971 by Pierre David-Weill, member of the Académie des beaux-arts, in order to encourage the practice of this fundamental gesture of creation among new generations of artists. Mr. Michel David Weill, also a member of the Academy, wished to continue his father's commitment in this regard and has been the patron of this prize since 1982.

1. PURPOSE

This competition is open to artists who are not older than 40 years of age on January 1, 2025 (born after December 31, 1984), regardless of their nationality; however, foreign candidates are only admitted to the competition if they have been living in France for at least six months.

Any drawing technique can be used.

1) Support: white or uniformly tinted paper or cardboard.

2) Processes: brush, pen, charcoal, blur, Conté pencils, graphite, Indian ink, sanguine, sepia, ballpoint pen

3) Limitation: drawings must be done in black or in one color only, as in the case of sanguine. The use of several colors on the same drawing will not be accepted.

Any work of art other than drawing (engraving or painting) will not be accepted.

2. PRIZES

Three prizes will be awarded.

First prize : 8000 €.

Second prize: 4000 €.

Third prize: 2000 €.

3. REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

1st phase

Online registration from December 10, 2022 to January 13, 2025 included (midnight), from the Wiin Contest platform

with the following elements :

Valid identity document to be provided for candidates of French nationality
Resident card or official proof of residence (photocopy of lease, electricity bill, telephone bill, etc.) proving that candidates of foreign nationality have been living in France permanently for at least 6 months
CV / presentation of career path
2 to 5 visuals of the drawings, mentioning the title, the dimensions, the techniques

Incomplete files after the date indicated above, as well as applications that do not meet the required criteria, will not be taken into consideration.

2nd phase: for pre-selected candidates

Shortlisted candidates will be notified by e-mail on January 30, 2025 and will be asked to submit their drawings or send them in.

I - Submission of drawings

Candidates must drop off their drawings ACCOMPANIED WITH THEIR CANDIDATE NUMBER, in a drawing box mentioning their name, on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Palais de l'Institut de France, 25 quai de Conti, Paris 6e, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The boxes must be delivered and opened by the competitors themselves or by their duly accredited representatives (the representative must prove and present a written power of attorney for this purpose). No coasters or frames of any kind will be accepted.

Each drawing must have the author's name and address written in ink on the back..

II - Sending the drawings by mail

Candidates who are unable to attend the competition in person should send their drawings, together with their application number, by mail (by Posts, DHL or any other means of transport), postmarked no later than February 7, 2025, in an envelope complying with the regulatory standards accepted by the post office, to the following address:

Any incomplete file or file arriving after the deadline will not be taken into account.

Return of the files: please enclose a stamped envelope with the size of the drawings.

III- Return of drawings

Candidates who have submitted their drawings must collect them on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Palais de l'Institut de France, 25 quai de Conti, Paris 6e, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Drawings not picked up by this date and for which no return system has been attached by their author will be destroyed.

The deposit and return of drawings by or on behalf of the author will be carried out at the author's risk. The return of the drawings, whether it is ensured by the author or by the carrier of his choice, can in no way engage the responsibility of the Academy.

4. JURY

The jury of the Prize is composed of the members of the painting, sculpture, engraving and drawing sections of l'Académie des beaux-arts as well as possible representatives of the other sections.

5. CALENDAR

December 10, 2024 - January 13, 2025: online registration on the Wiin Contest platform

January 30 2025: shortlisted candidates will be informed by the Académie des beaux-arts

January 30 - February 7, 2025: submission by mail of drawings by the shortlisted candidates

February 7, 2025: submission in person of drawings by the shortlisted candidates

During February: meeting of the jury

March 20 - June 1, 2025 : exhibition at the Pavillon Comtesse de Caen

June 5, 2025: return of the drawings

6. PRIZE PRESENTATION AND AWARD CEREMONY

The winners will be announced during the exhibition opening, and the prizes are awarded in November during the Séance Solennelle of the Académie des beaux-arts, under the dome of the Institut de France.

7. EXHIBITION

The jury will determine the number of works selected for the exhibition which will take place at the Pavillon Comtesse de Caen

It is expressly stipulated that the Académie des Beaux-Arts will not take out any insurance and will be released from all responsibility for any damage that may occur. It is the responsibility of the contestants to take out their own insurance against any damage to their drawings.
