History

Historical competition of the Academy created in 1975 in the spirit of the Prix de Rome, the Grand Prix d'Architecture has known since that date and until 2016 several cycles inspired in particular by Michel Folliasson, Claude Parent and Paul Andreu.

In 2020, it was decided to establish a biennial operation, with one year the award of a Grand Prix to an architect for the whole of his career (consecration prize) and the following year the organization of a competition aimed at new generations of architects.

Objectives

The Academy wishes to promote projects considered as exemplary of contemporary ways of doing and thinking about architecture. Attentive to new practices, the selection will value the diversity of approaches, the crossing of disciplines and the prospective character of projects.

The competition affirms the vocation of architecture to be open to a variety of cultural, scientific and technical methods and knowledge, in line with the contemporary challenges of the environmental and digital revolutions.

Every two years, a selection of four projects will be selected in connection with a common theme of reflection of the five academies.

Phases of the competition

The new competition is a process of emulation during which candidates are invited to develop a project over the course of a year with the production of a summary, a possible stay in residence for research and production (depending on the project presented) and an exhibition. These three phases will be articulated in the following way:

Submission of applications via the WIIN.IO platform
Pre-selection by a committee composed of actors of the architectural world
Hearing of the pre-selected teams by the jury
Research residency and production of the four finalist teams according to the project
Exhibition of the four finalist projects and publication
